What is UAE? Let alone Pocket UAE?
UAE stands for "Ultimate Amiga Emulator" and is simply an emulator that
"emulates" the Amiga computer that was popular from 1986 to 1995 or so abouts.
This computer had three custom chips that were able to communicate with
one another and actually perform parallel-processing. The operating
system of this computer was a pre-emptive multi-tasking OS that was way ahead
of its time. What could be accomplished with a simple 7.14MHz Amiga 500
could run circles around anything taking place on the PC's at that time.
The Amiga became known as the video graphics computer while PC was for
the business world and Macintosh was for printing.
Pocket UAE is simply the emulator ported to the Pocket PC's of today.
This emulator takes advantage of the tap screen capabilities of these
devices and does nearly 100% emulation of the Amiga computers.
What is Pocket UAE Launcher?
Good question. While the emulator is good and all, it comes with a
semi-technical method of configuring which floppies are inserted, which
processor to emulate, the graphics chipset that should be emulated from the
array of Amiga computers available, hard-drive settings, on and on and on.
So, though these items are in development by "Cerial23" and "Poopi" who
are working together on the project, I thought I'd try my hand at programming
the Pocket PC. What you have now is my first programming project for the
PPC. And though it may not have every feature that people would want,
it's got a lot.
How do I get the launcher running with Pocket UAE?
Another good question. First, you need to have
Pocket UAE installed. I don't really have an installer that I want
to make available for my launcher. Pocket PC installers suck in general
as they do not give you many options as to where you want to install the
program. So, I am simply offering the launchers ".exe"
executable file for download. You will unzip this file into the
directory where you have placed the "uae.exe" program. Create a shortcut
to "Pocket UAE Launcher.exe" for your start menu (for newbies to this, here's how you can do this). If
you have Windows Mobile 2003 or "2003 se" then you already have the ".net"
framework installed in ROM of your device. But, if you have a 2002
version then you will need to download and install the ".net compact framework" from Microsoft. Start the
program and you are up and running.
Known Issues and things to know:
Hey, there's always room for improvements and things that just quite aren't
done yet. These include the following:

available for you to use.

loss of data, destructions of your device caused by this program or any other
effect caused by this or any other program. Though it works just fine on
my Dell Axim x50v, my iPAQ 4155 and the Pocket PC 2002 emulator, you use it at
your own risk. I am not to be held responsible in any way or form.
Cool features:
There are some cool things that this launcher does that saves time.
First, it will automatically detect all ".rom" image files that you have
placed in the "roms" sub-folder of your "UAE.exe" emulator. When you
launch the program, it allows you to simply select the KickStart of your choice
from a pull-down menu. It does the same thing with all disk files ".adf"
that you have in the "disks" sub-folder. The same for all hard-disk files
".hdf" that you place in the "HDD" directory. And, last file based item,
is that it allows you to select a hard-drive directory to be utilized as a
hard-drive. So, if you simply copy a program into that folder, such as
"sysinfo.exe", when you start your Amiga emulator, that folder will be mounted
as an actual Amiga hard-drive in which you can copy to and from the Amiga or
Pocket PC. I also included a quick selection of what graphics mode you
are running in "320x240" or "640x480". For the higher graphics mode to
work, you have to have a VGA equiped Pocket PC and be running in true "VGA"
mode using a utility such as "SE_VGA" which is a free download.
