Assassin's Creed has better AI on Xbox 360 over PS3

Date: 9/30/2006 12:23:43 AM   Author: Mr. X
In an interview with Ubisoft from IGN, it's discovered that the Xbox 360 version will have improved AI for the crowd over the PS3.  How is that possible when the PS3's cel is suppose to be superior?  Oh wait, that's right, it really isn't when it comes to games..

"While the PlayStation 3 and 360 versions of Assassin's Creed are virtually identical, Raymond did say that on the 360 the team is putting a special emphasis on achievements. The hardware also allows for improved threading, which will improve even further the crowd AI."

PlayStation Mag Editor Opts For Xbox 360

Date: 8/17/2006 11:42:04 PM   Author: Mr. X
Official PlayStation Magazine editor Dana Jongewaard has written quite a piece on why she doesn’t intend to fork over $600-plus to Sony for the PS3 this November. She does, however, intend to buy an Xbox 360.

Jongewaard cites what appears to be a lack of big-name titles upon the console’s release as her main reason and adds the fact she just isn’t impressed by Blu-ray. She doesn’t seem to be impressed by TV technology in general, but that’s another story.

Watch out for falling Cell processor speeds!

Watch out for falling Cell processor speeds!

Date: 7/1/2006 9:33:10 PM   Source: Xbit Labs
It turns out that the 3.2GHz to 3.5GHz processor speed promised by Sony may end up dropping down to 2.8GHz.   Say what!?!   Sony wouldn't do that now would they?   Well, it seems that the heat put out by the untested Cell CPU is way too hot.   It also seems that there will now be an external brick power supply just like you would find with the Xbox 360.  Oh wait, the external power supply for the Xbox 360 is only 203 Watts while the Sony PS3 power supply is 400 WATTS!

But, at least you get twice the power of the Xbox 360.  Wait, nope, scratch that.  You get the same or even less than the capability of the Xbox 360 for $200 more and twice the power consumption.

But, at least you pay the same amount per game on the PS3.  Wait, nope, scratch that too.  There are rumors that you'll pay more for PS3 games since it takes longer to make the same game on it.

Sony, you've got a winner there.  I sure hope you can at least hold paper down on tables when it's windy.   Oh wait, nope, scratch that too, there's a risk of paper catching fire with that 400 Watts.  Hmmm, I guess you shouldn't buy a PS3.

Sony's marketing campaign: over promise and under deliver

Sony's marketing campaign: over promise and under deliver

Date: 6/12/2006 9:33:07 AM   Source: Yahoo
I knew it!  I just knew it.

Sony has this reputation of over promising and under delivering and I think it is part of their marketing campaign.   Remember when they said there would be two video outputs?   Rembember when they promised that the PS3 would do 1080p video output which is twice what the Xbox 360 could do as far as HDTV support?   The president of Sony even went on saying stupid stuff like "I guess we'll have to wait for the PS3 to come out to see true next generation games".   They promised so many things that it would do that people were salivating.

Now, here's what Yahoo had to say about the PS3:

"Missing from both versions is the promised dual-screen, 1080p support (that's 1920x1080 resolution in progressive scan), as well as the multiple Ethernet ports. The controller has also been changed. Last year's boomerang design is out and the standard Dual Shock is back in. Only now the controller has gone wireless and it's lost the "shock" (the rumble feedback)."

Xbox 360 and PS3 games will be 'impossible to tell apart'

Interesting stuff.  It seems that with the extra year to "get it right" the PS3, by Fony, wont have much or any advantage over the Xbox 360.  A developer at StarBreeze AB, formerly known as StarBreeze Studio's, has reported that the Xbox 360 will have some advantages and the PS3 will have its own as well.  The end result is that you wont be able to tell the difference between the same game on one console versus another.

Evil Sony: Sony Pisses Off Online Korean Developers

Date: 2/27/2006 9:27:33 AM   Source: Kotaku
Sony, in an effort to mimmick the success of Xbox Live, has approached the Korean online gaming community for help.  Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and KIPA (a Korean government agency that promotes IT) co-organized a business proposal PS3 event for developers in Korea.  Everything would have went pretty well except that Sony wanted to own everything that was produced including the source code (even if the game was not published), they would own all rights to a sequel and initial profit will go to Sony.

In the immortal words of Seinfeld, "good luck with allll of that!"

The great lie unfolds

The great lie unfolds

Date: 2/11/2006 11:30:34 PM   Source: Kikizo.com
I can't help but snicker as I write this.  As always, the great hype machine known as Sony has been caught.  Why is it that they have earned the title of "over promising and under delivering"?  Well, because that's exactly what they do and it seems to work for them.  It suits them too but in the end "liars" is what I call them.

What I'm talking about is the first hands on with the PS3 from Kikizo games.  In the end they were "dissappointed" but still believe it has "barely" a little bit more power than the Xbox 360.  That's great for a machine that will most likely cost $200 more than the 360.  And all of those game trailors that you have been drooling over, well, they're just CGI animation.  Sony's promise of 1080p graphics is being met with 720p by most developers because the hardware truely can't handle it.  That big metal box that they show with the ugly ass big boomerang controller is just a hollow shell.  In fact the final version will most likely be bigger admits a developer.  Anyways, nice lies Sony.  I mean "marketing".

Contrary to Sony's recall of infected CDs, Sony's own stores continue to sell the infected CDs to unsuspecting children and grandparents. From The Consumerist:

I just got back from the Sony Style store in the Westchester mall, (White Plains, NY) and I saw that the had many CDs in the shelves that had the XCP rootkits. I asked the manager about this and they said they were, and I quote, “still allowed to sell them”. From Sony’s website (http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/) “2. SONY BMG is working with its retail partners to withdraw compact discs with XCP software from distribution and retail chains. It has asked retailers to cease sale of those discs and to return them to SONY BMG. This withdrawal program has been and is being widely communicated.”

I guess it asked 3rd party retailers to return the CDs to Sony so they can sell them in their own stores?
Bah humbug, Sony!

Microsoft Xbox 360 Marketing Has Screwed Up!

Microsoft Xbox 360 Marketing Has Screwed Up!

Date: 12/4/2005 4:14:37 PM   Author: Mr. X
This morning I was looking through the HUGE pile of Christmas shopping advertisements including Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, Sears, CompUSA, Radio Shack, etc.  In all of those I only found ONE that had the Xbox 360 advertised in it.  On top of that, it wasn't an advertisement for the unit but an advertisement for Microsoft Media Center and that is could communicate to the Xbox 360!

So this gets me thinking of all of the negative aspects of having a "not in stock" type of sales status:
  1. None of the big stores will advertise it because they can't keep it in stock.  This can't be good for general public awareness.
  2. Non-gamers don't know what the Xbox 360 is because there are no advertisements for it in the paper and there are about ZERO commercials out there for the unit.
  3. Regular Xbox systems seem to have disappeared from those advertisements because the new "Xbox 360" has replaced the Xbox unit.
  4. If Xbox 360 and Apple iPods are the top of the Christmas list, why do store commercials such as Circuit City show an iPod, a PSP and a bunch of other electronics other than the Xbox 360?
  5. If Microsoft had another 1 million units to sell they would have sold them and increased their base by that 1 million.
Who was it that said having a low stock was good for a product?  I can only imagine that when the PS3 finally hits land it will be front page of store advertisements.  So, does this point to a bias of these stores?  Does it boil down to what makes money?  If a store doesn't have more than 20 units to sell are they going to make money off of it or waste more from people clogging their phone lines asking if they have it in stock?  Either way, it seems that Microsoft is blowing it once again with presenting their product because really there isn't any presentation out in the general publics eye.

PS2 Games to be run on Xbox 360?

Date: 11/12/2005 11:09:29 AM   Author: Mr. X
Knowing that emulator configuration updates can be downloaded and burned to a CD means that the world will be able to pull apart this file and analyse it.  This also means that possible PS2 emulator files could be created allowing PS2 games to be run on the Xbox 360.  And why stop there when you could create the same thing for the Sega Dreamcast or whatever.  Here is the snipet that details the process:

"you can get the latest software updates from Xbox Live, burn a CD from xbox.com or sign up on Xbox.com for a CD that can be delivered to your home at a nominal shipping and handling fee. Once you get the CD, put it in your Xbox 360 and you're ready to go."

GameShout put together a little article (theory) about PS3 devlopers jumping ship.  Of course this is fueled by reports of difficulty in creating their advanced "Hello World" programs on Sony's not ready for prime time offering.  Looks like Microsoft not only did it right with the power of the Xbox 360 hardware and a good line of communications with the developers.  They also created a programming environment that is easy to use and helps manage their code effectively.  Good work Microsoft.

Xbox 360 outperforms PS3

I was just thinking this morning about how Sony usually doesn't tell the truth by overhyping their products and decided to do some searching.

"When you break down the numbers, Xbox 360 has provably more performance than PS3. Keep in mind that Sony has a track record of over promising and under delivering on technical performance."

Yeah, I thought so.  What jerks that they have to continue their campaign of trickery to try and win.  Microsoft, hate them or love them, has been dead on with their estimates, delivery of capabilities, online features and more.  Sony, has seemed to NEVER deliver as promised and this is just one more instance of the same ol, same ol.  Sony, go home.
